近隣スポットのご紹介「新島襄旧邸」

新島襄とその妻・八重の私邸であった建物で、彼のボストンの友人であるJ. M. シアーズの寄付により建設。
そしてこの場所は同志社英学校が開校した際に仮校舎としても借用されていたことがあります。

外観は洋式のアメリカのコロニアル・スタイルですが、内装には所々に和の要素を取り入れた和洋折衷の住宅となっています。
実際に生活していた家屋が当時のまま展示されていてとても手入れが行き届いています。

About a 10-minute walk from Tasselinn
Head north a short distance from Marutamachi-dori along Teramachi-dori
and you'll find the Former Residence of Niijima Jo east of Kyoto Imperial Palace Park.
This building served as the private residence of Niijima Jo and his wife, Yae. It was constructed with a donation from his Boston friend, J. M. Sears.
This location was also once borrowed as a temporary school building when Doshisha English School opened.

While the exterior features American Colonial style, the interior incorporates Japanese elements in places, creating a Western-Japanese hybrid residence. The house, preserved as it was when lived in, is meticulously maintained and displayed as it was in its time.
